Charleville School of Distance Education is a Prep to Year 10 school, established in 1966 as a School of the Air, with radio lessons conducted from the Royal Flying Doctor Service Base. Students completed their instructional materials with the support of Home Tutors and teachers based at the Correspondence School in Brisbane.

In 1989, the school officially became the School of Distance Education – Charleville Centre. With the construction of a new building and the refurbishment of existing facilities in 1991, Charleville School of Distance Education, as it is known today, was established. In 2001, HF radios were replaced by telephone-based lessons, marking a significant shift in communication and delivery.

Today, students complete units of work, participate in regular on-air lessons, and communicate with their teachers and peers through email and web-based learning environments. Students also have opportunities to participate in face-to-face field events, including camps, Minischool Weeks, Cluster Musters, Swim and Sports Musters, the Kickstart Conference and Whole School Muster Week. These events bring together students from Prep to Year 10 and support assessment, social connection, and enriched teaching and learning experiences.

Charleville School of Distance Education has a vibrant school community committed to achieving its vision of Every student achieving. This work is guided by the following values:

Inclusivity
All students and all members of the school community are supported to fully participate in every aspect of school life.

Integrity
Honesty, strong principles, and respectful relationships underpin a united school community.

Innovation
Flexibility to create, develop, and implement processes, resources, and curriculum delivery that respond to the evolving needs of students.

We are a proud state-run educational facility with dedicated staff and a highly supportive parent community. Together, we provide quality education, support, and programs for students living in rural and remote areas across Southern and South Western Queensland.
