Distance education enrolment fees
Provides eligibility criteria to determine if home-based school-aged learners are ‘limited choice’ learners and therefore exempt from paying the enrolment fee for distance education, and fees and charges that apply to non-State school students. Describes process to seek exemption, waiver or refund from payment.
Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme
The AIC Scheme helps families of students who are unable to attend an appropriate state school on a daily basis, mainly because of geographic isolation. For families with students who are enrolled in an approved distance education course. A student may be regarded as geographically isolated from appropriate schooling if one of the following rules are met:
Rule 1: The distance between the principal family home and the nearest appropriate state school is at least 56 kilometres via the shortest practical route, or
Rule 2: The distance between the principal family home and the nearest appropriate state school (via the shortest practicable route) is at least 16 kilometres AND the distance between the principal family home and the nearest available transport service to the nearest appropriate state school is at least 4.5 kilometres via the shortest practicable route.

Abstudy
If you are an Indigenous secondary or tertiary student or a full-time Australian Apprentice, ABSTUDY is an allowance that may help you stay at school or in further study. Depending on your situation, you might also be eligible for extra payments to help with the costs of studying.
Secondary textbook and resources allowance
The department provides assistance to parents of secondary school age students attending state and approved non-state schools to contribute towards the cost of textbooks and learning resources.
ICT subsidy
To provide funding via the Schools of Distance Education, to assist families with offsetting the cost of computer equipment and internet access for students.
