Diverse Learners support

At Charleville School of Distance Education, a team of Diverse Learners teachers, supported by the Head of Special Education Services (HOSES), works with students who have disabilities, learning difficulties, or who require extension.

Support may include:

  • working with class teachers to adjust teaching and learning programs
  • providing extension or supplementary learning programs
  • targeted one-on-one support, including additional on-air lessons
  • home visits, where appropriate

The type and level of support provided varies according to individual student needs and is considered on a case-by-case basis, in consultation with families, teachers, and the HOSES.

Queensland state schools are committed to inclusive education, ensuring students with disability can access and participate in learning alongside their peers. This is supported through reasonable adjustments, as required under the Disability Standards for Education 2005.

More information about inclusive education and supports for students with disability is available on the Department of Education website:

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)

Charleville School of Distance Education participates in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD).

The NCCD is an annual data collection that records information about the reasonable adjustments provided for students with disability, supporting their participation in learning on the same basis as their peers. The data helps governments better understand how students with disability are supported in Australian schools.

Information for the NCCD is gathered through existing school processes and is based on:

  • ongoing evidence of adjustments provided
  • consultation with parents and carers
  • professional judgement of teachers and school staff

Participation in the NCCD does not change a student's learning program and does not require a formal diagnosis. Families are informed if their child is included in the NCCD.

More information about the NCCD is available at:
https://www.nccd.edu.au/

State-wide programs and services
